About Pilates
Pilates can take on many different forms. The nature of the movements in Pilates and the focus on breathing and core, means it can range from strength and sculpting, to injury rehabilitation, to meditative practice.
Pilates allows the individual to connect mind and body and flow through controlled movements using support from the abdominals and precise breathing patterns. It is a very powerful practice and once you feel the positive effects of Pilates, you won’t want to stop.
Is Pilates right for you?
Pilates is a great way to improve strength, spinal mobility and flexibility. It is also a good way to tune into your body and become more aware of your own musculoskeletal system. Whether you are a first timer or a regular, Pilates can be adapted for almost every individual’s needs.
How to participate in Pilates
We offer one-to-one and two-to-one sessions for a more personal and targeted approach, these are offered in-person or online. We also offer at-home courses which you can access in your own time, these courses are not tailored.
Which option is best for you?
If you are looking for something more targeted, or you have specific health issues or needs, injuries or postural differences, then a one-to-one session (or two-to-one) is the best option to offer you more structured support and a programme that is tailored to your needs.
A full assessment is taken at the first session and a programme will be built around this. There are some medical conditions and injuries that may require GP sign-off before proceeding with a session, we will discuss this with you during the assessment.
Examples of areas Pilates can help with
· Spinal strength and mobility
· Postural improvements
· Abdominal and pelvic floor strength
· Strength and sculpting
· Fitness and flexibility
· Mind and body connection
What do you need to participate?
For the one-to-one and two-to-one sessions you need a mat and comfortable clothing that you can exercise in. If there is any equipment suggested during your programme this will be discussed and agreed with you.
For at-home courses you will need a mat, comfortable clothing and either a small set of hand weights (1kg, 1.5kg or 2kg) or you can improvise with two full bottles of water which you can grip.
